MURAL MIKE

With over 2400 murals, Philadelphia is known as America's City of Murals. The Mural Arts Program commissioned a mural on the Spring Garden Street Bridge in 2002. The bridge links Fairmount/Center City with West Philadelphia - two separate and distinct neighborhoods. The artist, Shira Walinsky, wanted to portray the individuals who used this bridge every day. At the time, I lived in Browntown and used this bridge to get back and forth to Penn. I commented to the artist frequently that her work was looking good, and one day she asked me to stop and took a picture of me. The next thing I knew, this was up. Although it appears that I'm wearing suspenders, I'm actually on my bike and wearing my bookbag when she took the picture. Boneman rules!

This shot shows the mural's proximity to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, made famous in 1976 when Rocky famously ran up the stairs training for Apollo Creed.

PHANTOMS HOCKEY

My friends Colin and Mark asked me to go to Game Three of the Calder Cup Finals last night, between the Phantoms and the Chicago Wolves. The Phantoms won 2-1, and now have a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Wolves and can wrap up their second AHL championship as soon as Friday. Outside of a small incident with the Phantoms mascot Phlex taking some of Colin's popcorn without asking him, throwing it at other fans and blaming it on Colin (to which he replied "Not funny, Phlex!"), it was a great game and a lot of fun!

Colin wanted to try my glasses on to see if he could see the game better...

DICK DALE ROCKS!

Dick Dale rocked the North Star Bar Sunday night, and the boys were among the "Dickheads," as his fans are known, in attendance. The North Star is a great venue. You can get up close, as this picture suggests.

FISH TAKES THE WALK

Fish and Trish exchanging their vows during their lovely wedding cermony at St. Albert the Great church Saturday. Trish's sister Allyson is the Matron of Honor, and that's none other than The Bear, Liam Looney himself, standing in for the Fish!
